Pitch Hunter — Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 18, 2026
The short version
Pitch Hunter does not collect, transmit, or share any personal information. Everything happens on your device.
What the app does with the microphone
Pitch Hunter uses the iPhone microphone to detect high-frequency sounds — mosquitoes, CRT flyback, coil whine, ultrasonic emitters, and similar signals.
All audio is processed in real time, in memory, on your device. The raw audio is never recorded to disk, never uploaded, and never shared with any third party. The app only needs live microphone access to draw the spectrogram, run the pitch tracker, and classify sounds.
If you deny microphone access, Pitch Hunter still runs — the Detect tab will simply show no signal.
Data collection
None.
- No analytics SDK.
- No crash-reporting SDK.
- No advertising SDK.
- No account system.
- No login.
- No network calls.
The app does not create a user profile, does not read your contacts, location, photos, or any other personal information, and does not access the iCloud keychain or your pasteboard.
Data stored on your device
The app stores a handful of preferences locally in UserDefaults:
- The last-used calibration rolloff frequency (a single number, in Hz).
- Whether you have dismissed the Repel-mode safety disclaimer.
- UI preferences such as the last selected tab.
None of this information leaves your device. Deleting the app removes all of it.
Children
Pitch Hunter is rated 4+. It does not collect any information from anyone, including children under 13, and is fully compliant with COPPA by virtue of collecting nothing.
Tone generator and Repel mode
The app can emit high-frequency tones through the speaker. These tones are generated on-device and are not derived from any recorded audio. A safety disclaimer appears the first time Repel mode is engaged; please review it before use.
Third-party services
None. Pitch Hunter does not use any third-party SDKs, frameworks, or services that collect user data. The app is built exclusively on Apple frameworks (SwiftUI, AVFoundation, Accelerate).
Changes to this policy
If we ever change what the app does with your data, we will update this policy and require the app to ship a new version. Continued use of a new version constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
